21 Tandem Repeats: News

soldiers marching - November 5, 2006

21 tandem repeats is preparing for the second half of the fall series of supper show's for 2006. Robertson who refers to the fall/ winter sessions as the greatest... "Something about the streets being dark outside gives the show some more intimacy" he believes.
Perhaps this fall has a special ring to it as the band is preparing a CD release party night on December 16 2006 at the western front (303 east 8th ave), and are saying very little about it.
Recall that Robertson has handed exams to the audience on previous CD release party show's with his band Roadbed.
"We will have to come up big that night and the best preparation is another month of Super Robertson Supper Shows" said Robertson.

Ace guitarist Willingdon Black is more concerned with getting his solo vocals at the end of the song Failure up to speed. "It's a delicate line, and one would not want to broach it in the incorrect manor" read a note left at Canada Lynx Records that was allegedly penned by Willingdon Black.

Mystery guest for the CD Release party - October 30, 2006

S. Robertson is announcing that there will be a mystery guest for the December 16, 2006 CD release party at the Western Front.

Robertson would not comment further, he rubbed his beard and eyed this reporter cautiously.

"Of course there will be an opening act! What do i look like some rookie jackass!" he said much later.

October 5th show a blast... what is the future? - October 7, 2006

Thanks to all who came out on October 5th to catch Supersimian, The Family Stump, A ghost to kill again and 21 tandem repeats. It was a bit odd playing late at night after doing the Supper show for so long (20 months).

We have found a publicist to help release our cd "Never wanted to be anyone"... the word is that it will be available @ the Supper show on December 6, and the release party will be on December 16th, at a venue that has been decided upon but not yet officially booked.

New CD available now... unofficially - October 6, 2006

Never Wanted to be Anyone is now available online from CD Baby.

<http://cdbaby.com/cd/21tandemrepeats2>
It shall be available for digital download shortly

Line up and get stomped - September 12, 2006

The point of this news story is to announce the fact that 21 tandem repeats new CD titled "Never wanted to be anyone" is ready to stomp your balls, or perhaps the equivalent female anatomy part.

This CD proves the definitive genius of Willingdon Black, the bands ace player. "Subtly infectious" is the term most pundits are clinging to in this time of first reviews.

Scene kingpin Mule Hughes has yet to officially weigh in on the subject. Although it is rumored that the Mule may be too involved in the project after being listed in the CD liner notes as the "sleeve text editor".

The CD will be available online shortly, but for now there are 2 ways you can get it.

1) come on down to the Super Robertson Supper Show and purchase a copy for $10

2) Write a pointed relevant essay on 21 Tandem Repeats. And send it our way for the proper grading.

Never wanted to be anyone has gone to press - July 29, 2006

The long awaited CD "Never wanted to be anyone" by 21 Tandem Repeats has gone to press. They should be back by mid August, and the band will have it's metal tested.

In other news the photo gallery has been updated with recent photo's taken by Peter Lolly a man with a mean handlebar mustache. I'll get all the tunes up with the lyrics ASAP... which means mid 2009 by the way this site has been updated.

Also 21 tandem repeats has picked up 2 shows at the Railway Club one on Thursday September 7th and one on Thursday October 5th.

Updating a site can have a weird psychological affect on an artist... say the right thing. I believe Willingdon Black called it "smiley-faced PR".

Releasing CD's or for that matter "recordings"- Is it success that one is looking for or are you just like a salmon swimming upstream on some ingrained imperative releasing music that you call albums.

Does anybody care?

Would you want people to care and if they did and you saw them caring would it then affect you in ways you may not understand?

What is a website compared to a blog?

We need to have fun making music, and fun would be playing shows and making a wage equivalent to what we make in our day jobs... i mean making many greenbacks, glob-trotting and laying down some fine 21tr wisdom in press conferences.

Canadalynxrecords.com has moved - May 13, 2006

The mother ship of our grand enterprise Canada Lynx Records has had a website change. The new vibe came last week when Canada Lynx records moved to a pro Hostbaby site.
Notice the easy navigation and the clear links to products. indeed a fine business decision... yes sir.

In a business related news story 21 tandem Repeats has completed their forthcoming CD.

The original idea was to call it Never wanted to be anyone. Then in a bizarre move S. Robertson became in charge of the graphic art design voting preliminaries. As a result the cover now has a fine photograph of a jellyfish and is titled "Jellyfish bud". A clear reference in to how jellyfish reproduce, by budding of course. Indeed a jellyfish just grows a lump or divides into smaller jellyfish.

The idea struck Robertson after looking at another rudimentary Photoshop job that he spent hours on that had the look of a gay piece of crap.

Robertson had this to say "If I'm going to be picky then I'm going to have to feel unnecessary pain to remind me not to be that way because nothing ever really matters in this shithole world".
He then mumbled something and left.

The latest news - April 18, 2006

Well, the lead story would be that S. Robertson stomped Shockk in a game of bubble hockey on the weekend taking a playoff series 3-2.
The turning point in the series was Robertson's scintilating goaltending in the 3rd match. Shockk was buzzing around the net pouring it on but Robertson stoned him on 3 consecutive breakaways. There was a mild argument over a puck that seemed to go in and come back out, but Robertson dismissed that talk as sour grapes.

Shockk then went on a bowling rampage crushing Robertson 150-127. It should be noted that Robertson was beginning to get his game together after an early series of gutter balls when Shockk smashed his finger in a bizarre bowling accident.

Some pundits are saying that Shockk, seeing Robertson catch fire at the end of his game, felt a bad case a deja vu (having taken the first hockey match 4-0) and intentionally injured himself.

In another unrelated news story Robertson and Black made some headway on a new 21 tandem repeats song which may see Black singing about painting.

Also in the news, Baboon torture division will play at the supper show tomorrow.

Peace and out.

Photos are up - April 7, 2006

Thanks to all that came out to our show @ the Railway last night. It was a fine night in all respects, so give yourself a good clap on the back.
Word has it that it was a win win night all around. Thanks to Trigger the pony, That Kelly Boy, and Roger Dean Young as well.

It looks like we will do that again.

So its back to the grind for 21TR... time to get a few new songs up and running and expand on our 4 piece vibe. No better place than on Wednesday nights from 7:30-8:30PM at the Railway club during the Super Robertson Supper Show.

21 tandem repeats update March 7 2006 - March 7, 2006

21 tandem repeats are adjusting to being a 4 piece band. "that rich full sound can really take a bit if getting use to" quipped Robertson after last nights Jam.

Alvaro Rojas has figured out how to get sound from the Shabba black Stu-hamm Urge bass... which can be trying at times given the most elaborate combination of switches and knobs. Rojas has slowly begun taking over as the bands chief arranger, with his smart space trickery

Willingdon Black has been freed from playing "bass line like guitar parts" to add more of his patented atmospheric styling and tasteful licks. Black has also been adding parts to songs in a heroic effort to expand sonic horizons.

Hobbs, Has finished mixing the forthcoming 21 tandem repeats CD, taken over as master set list maker, and continues to display his mastery of groove and feather light touch.

Robertson, who just seconds ago received notice that 21 tandem repeats will not be accepted into this years Music industry festival New MusicWest was celebratory. Robertson scored big this year by betting Earl Parrish $200 that 21TR would not be accepted. "The fool parrish bet me, I didn't even have to fish for this one" said Robertson folding 2 crisp Borden's. Robertson sees 21tr as a more folk festival like band and less like an up and coming industry wanabee.

Parrish was in disbelief "Why would you not take 21tr... that's insane... it's like benching Lemieux and Gretzky for the 3rd period of a big game".

21TR, Tin Cup, that Boy, and a pony - February 24, 2006

21 Tandem Repeats will be headlining a show at the fabulous Railway Club on Saturday March 18th.

Also playing another unofficial "cd release party/ UK tour Kickoff" will be the incredibly talented Roger Dean Young and the tin cup.

Another Copperspine artist on the bill is one of my personal favorites in That Kelly Boy, who is soon to follow up his CD lonesome Lake... which I might add is a supreme listen.

To kick off the night we have Trigger the Pony featuring Aaron Grant, Aaron Joyce, Sam Cartwright and others. To quote Alvaro Rojas "The Aaron's are both music masters with a minor in country"

21TR on Citr - February 19, 2006

21 tandem repeats put on an acoustic clinic on citr on February 16 2006.

A scaled down version of the band featuring S. Robertson and W. Black played a softer set and took questions from the host Ben.
Perhaps Ben got more than what he bargained for by engaging S. Robertson in a genetics discussion, when Robertson turned the tables asking him some questions like "What made you get out of science good old Ben".

Interior design also played and put on a display of wizardry that only shockk can.

21 tandem Press darlings? - February 14, 2006

A story ran in the local paper 24 Hours with the idea that Canadian bands are relishing in their own identity.

The article stated "An act that can easily lay claim to this rediscovered Canadian rock tradition is the decidedly groovie-yet-folkie 21 tandem repeats". The article went on to say "21 tandem repeats has the sound and soul that could make Neil Young think about moving back".
Nice words to hear at a time when 21 tandem repeats seems to be gaining some momentum.
Musical genius Willingdon black has tailor written a song to meet the 21TR mantra, and ace bass man Alvaro Rojas is threatening to bring in some music.

Is Robertson worried about losing control? "Not a chance" said the bearded kingpin "A strong arm uses all the muscles collectively"... he then went on some philosophical tangent.

A new song "wishing machine" has been posted on the music page.

New CD comming soon... - February 7, 2006

In these bizarre times where one wonders about the format of CD, it looks like 21 Tandem Repeats are almost ready to release a follow up to "the ocean is life".

21 TR kingpin Super Robertson is calling on all songs to be collected and considered for a release to be possibly titled "FolkRobertson".

FolkRobertson will boast the vocal talents of Sim Special (Maiden), and The Land Of Deborah (Blue Skies), as well as the songwriting genius of David Hind (Jupiter and Dish pig) making it a true communal release.

Robertson who hopes to take the band on a folk festival tour in the summer believes a new release as a must for the band at this time.

21 tandem repeats snags Jazz man bass player - January 31, 2006

21 tandem repeats members have been on their best behavior as of late, since Jazz master Alvaro Rojas has taken an interest in the band.

Alvaro, who needs a proper nickname, has been jamming with the band for the past few weeks.
Famous as the stick player in the Vancouver jazz band In 3's, he is a welcome addition to any great band. He is a man with a commanding sense of groove and a keen understanding of song who is sure to expand the sonic possibilities of 21 tandem repeats.

21TR kingpin S. Robertson spent a few hours tinting his fingers together after the last jam and referred to this as a thing of destiny.

21 tandem repeats has never actively sought a bass player believing that the right thing would happen in time.

Is this the time?

Robertson replies "time is the hunter, and it will show the truth".

Last weeks summary - January 22, 2006

The Cottage Bistro show was a smashing success. 21 tandem repeats had a special dancer on stage for their first set and were joined by Alvaro Rojas on bass for their second set.

If that wasn't enough then Jazz masters Jeff Younger and Alvaro Rojas put on a dual guitar clinic. Next thing you know Super Robertson jumped on drums and Willingdon Black on bass... What followed was described by fans as "70's rock at the bistro", a nod to a Supersimian hit song.

In an unrelated news story, a song titled last call is now up in the music section.

21 tandem Repeats set to play the Bistro - January 18, 2006

The Cottage Bistro located @ 4468 Main Street has been a regular venue for Canada Lynx artists over the years. On Thursday January 19th 21 Tandem Repeats will make a pilgrimage to the good old venue.
The show will be an early one 8pm Start... there are rumors of a special guest, but we are not at liberty to expand on this rumor.

Nothing can go wrong! - January 8, 2006

Yes sir, a heavy headline to follow in a news story about a band in Vancouver B.C Canada.

In an unrelated news story a film titled Sesame Yellow, will be undertook by the Canada lynx records camp.
It's actually a film about Birds.

In another unrelated news story, 21 tandem repeats kingpin S. Robertson was checked out of a mental hospital earlier this afternoon. He admitted himself earlier in the week after a series of fiascos. The fiascos were for the most part "willingly self imposed". It should be noted that he was at the Charles Leduc Mental Hospital, which is a private, little known affair. This of course was only mentioned due to the fact that it could be construed that the word "Mental Hospital" meant something in a rather derogatory manner.

21Tr predicts Breakthrough year - January 2, 2006

21 Tandem Repeats believes that the year of the dog is the one for them.
With the Super Robertson Supper show beginning to hit it's stride one has to think that the possibilities are endless.
As proof of this trend 21 tandem Repeats debut CD titled THE OCEAN IS LIFE is now SOLD OUT (a few copies are @ CD Baby). Have no fears you can get it @ itunes and at other fine online MP3 stores.

Check out Maiden - December 6, 2005

21 tandem repeats follows suit in the Canada Lynx records productivity domain by finishing a mix of MAIDEN.
The song that was once a staple of the Knockin' Dog years has spring back to life. The band enlisted the golden voice of Mr. Sim Special for the track.
Sim Special of course can be heard on the new SUPERSIMIAN cd titled How the Tiger got Lionized, as well as many other fine projects.
Check out the Canada lynx records website <http://www.canadalynxrecords.com/>

Canada Lynx Records in High gear - November 29, 2005

Canada Lynx Records, the home of 21 Tandem Repeats, has been on a bit of a tear lately. New CD's by artists Interior Design and Supersimian and a hot new Canada Lynx records t-shirt's are all available.
Of course a new 21 tandem Repeats CD would be good, but like a fine scotch, greatness sometimes needs time.
A quick progress report see's the band back in the studio this weekend in an effort to draw closer to completion.

21 tandem repeats hit the Anza club - November 11, 2005

On Thursday November 10th 21 tandem repeats got together at the Anza Club to watch the Vancouver Canucks lose to the Colorado Avalanche. It turns out that Thursday is open stage night and the band was offered a chance to play. 21 tandem ran through songs "planned disaster", "ditch pig", and "failure" to a full house.
The band, who came off a hugely successful Super Robertson Supper show the night before, is always ready to rock. It should be noted that a few shows have been added to the 21 tandem Repeats gigs list.
Firstly the band plays the Blinding light cinema on December 10, the Railway Club on December 22, and the Cottage Bistro on January 19th 2006.

21 Tandem Repeats a hit in Russia - November 6, 2005

The Canadian band 21 Tandem Repeats has been enjoying gradual world success, but nowhere has the hotbed been burning stronger than in the Former Soviet Union.
Hard pressed for an answer then band is just happy to please any listeners.
Dr. J Downsman has a theory regarding why this is such. He claims that it is all in the sex appeal of 21 tandem repeats axe master Willingdon Black. According to Downsman, Russian woman seem to be attracted to his manly features, which in turn brings a certain success for the band.
